Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee Hosts 2024 Clean Block Contest

The Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee (PMBC) is hosting its 2024 Clean Block Contest, with judging set for September 28 and October 5. Sanitation Commissioner Crystal Jacobs-Shipman announced that 26 blocks will compete in this year’s contest, which assesses community efforts in cleanliness and organization. The Clean Block Contest is the highlight of a busy cleaning season, where dedicated volunteers have worked tirelessly to enhance their neighborhoods. This year, PMBC reported impressive statistics, including 9,207 blocks cleaned and nearly a million pounds of debris removed. Each participating block was selected from a pool of approximately 6,600 organized blocks registered with PMBC's block captain program.

Judging will commence at 9:15 a. m. on both Saturdays, with specific times allocated for each block. The initiative aims to promote civic pride and public safety, emphasizing the importance of community involvement. Interested residents are encouraged to reach out to PMBC to learn more about how they can contribute to this impactful program.
