The Citizens Police Oversight Commission Board to Consider Removal Resolution of Commissioner Torres Thomas

Philadelphia, PALocal News

The Citizens Police Oversight Commission (CPOC) Board will convene on September 26, 2024, to evaluate the potential removal of Commissioner Rosaura Torres Thomas, following her suspension on July 2, 2024. This suspension was enacted during an internal investigation that examined allegations of her mishandling confidential information outside of the agency. The CPOC Board asserts that maintaining the confidentiality of public safety information is essential for public trust, a cornerstone of the commissioners' responsibilities. The investigation's findings are now complete, and the Board plans to share the results during the upcoming public meeting. Importantly, the investigation is distinct from a previous incident from 2023, which the Office of Inspector General reviewed and cleared CPOC staff of any wrongdoing.

Additionally, the current investigation does not relate to any whistleblower claims or Commissioner Thomas's ethnicity. CPOC expresses its ongoing commitment to high standards and community engagement in policing. The meeting will also be accessible to the public via Zoom, encouraging community involvement in this significant governance issue.
