The new budget allocates nearly $526 million using a new adequacy formula to ensure that funds are directed to the schools that need them most. Special education funding will also see a $100 million increase, ensuring that students with disabilities receive the necessary resources for quality education. Furthermore, the budget includes a $20 million annual investment in school safety and security, along with additional funding for mental health resources and environmental repairs. Shapiro emphasized that investing in education is paramount for the future of children in Pennsylvania. The budget also aims to tackle the teacher shortage by doubling the funding for student teacher stipends, supporting the next generation of educators.
