Mayor Names New Streetcar Authority Board Member
Bob Stubbe has stepped down from the Omaha Streetcar Authority, resigning as a board member due to a conflict of interest related to the management of contracts for the streetcar project. In a letter to Mayor Jean Stothert, Stubbe expressed concerns that the recent actions of the Authority would interfere with his responsibilities as Public Works Director. His resignation is effective as of August 13, 2024. To fill the vacancy, Mayor Stothert has appointed Steve Jensen, who previously served as the City of Omaha Planning Director and is currently part of the mayor's economic development team. Jensen's work will largely focus on the streetcar project and its associated developments in the urban core.
The Omaha Streetcar Authority was formed through an interlocal agreement between the City of Omaha and Metro Transit to manage the streetcar system. The board is made up of seven members, with three appointed by the mayor, three by Metro, and one by the Greater Omaha Chamber. This change in leadership comes at a crucial time as the city continues to advance its transportation infrastructure.
