Central Library Fundraising Campaign Surpasses Goal; Central Park Plaza to Transform into Residential Development

Omaha, NELocal News

Omaha's Central Library fundraising campaign achieved an important milestone by exceeding its $158 million goal, which includes a $20 million contribution from the City of Omaha. During a celebratory event, supporters signed the final beam to be lifted into the library's structure, highlighting the collaborative efforts between private donors and local government. Mayor Jean Stothert praised the community's commitment to public libraries and their role in fostering innovation and learning. The new library, scheduled for completion in 2026, aims to be a hub for community interaction and ideas. In another major development, the Central Park Plaza office complex is set to be repurposed into “The Duo,” a large residential project that will enhance downtown Omaha.

NuStyle Development's plans include removing the Park Fair Mall to create additional apartments and commercial space, with the project valued at $163 million. This redevelopment aligns with the anticipated streetcar project, which is expected to increase downtown property values. The renovations will be completed in phases, with the entire project expected to wrap up by 2027.
