Omaha Police Department Receives National Accreditation
The Omaha Police Department has successfully attained national accreditation for the eighth time from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), a significant recognition of its commitment to professional excellence in law enforcement. The accreditation process begins with a comprehensive self-assessment, which evaluates the department's policies and practices against established public safety standards. Following this, independent assessors conduct a review, and public feedback is solicited to foster community trust and engagement. The final decision on accreditation is made by a governing body of 21 commissioners after a public hearing and careful examination of the documentation provided.
This accreditation will remain effective for four years, during which the department must continuously comply with CALEA standards to maintain its status. CALEA Accreditation serves as a hallmark of professional excellence, underscoring the importance of transparency and community-focused service in law enforcement. The Omaha Police Department's achievement reflects its ongoing commitment to improving public safety and fostering trust within the community. As a result, the department continues to set a benchmark in law enforcement practices on a national level.
