Very Wet Christmas Forecasted for Western Washington Amid Atmospheric River
Western Washington is preparing for a very wet Christmas, with the National Weather Service predicting another atmospheric river to impact the region. This weather event will bring a series of fronts starting Christmas afternoon, resulting in heavy rainfall and breezy winds to lowland areas like Tacoma and Olympia, along with snow in mountain regions. The upcoming systems are expected to deliver 2-3 inches of rain in the lowlands, while winds may gust up to 30-40 mph. Meteorologist Jacob DeFlitch notes that these fronts will not be as severe as the last atmospheric river that caused wind gusts of 40-45 mph. Christmas temperatures are forecasted to be in the upper 40s, with the 50s following through the weekend.
Travelers heading to the mountains are urged to stay updated on weather forecasts due to anticipated increased snowfall from Wednesday to Friday. It is crucial for residents to be prepared for potentially hazardous travel conditions as the holiday approaches.
