Zebra on its way to intended home after successful rescue

The captivating story of a zebra named "Sugar," affectionately known as "Shug," unfolded in North Bend, Washington, where she was rescued after eluding capture for nearly six days. Shug escaped from a trailer while being transported to Montana when the owner had to stop on Interstate 90 due to a trailer issue. Three other zebras were quickly rounded up, but Shug's adventurous spirit kept her on the run until community members reported her sightings, aiding rescuers in locating her. Capt. Tim Anderson from Regional Animal Services of King County praised the local community for their involvement, which was essential for Shug's successful recovery.

The capture process took about three hours, and Shug was found to be in reasonably good health following her week in the wilderness. The owner, currently in Montana, is working with local contacts to ensure Shug’s safe relocation. An investigation is underway regarding the circumstances of the zebras' escape, and potential fines or citations could be imposed on the owner. This heartwarming tale of community effort and animal rescue has captured the attention of many, highlighting the bond between people and animals.
