Mill Creek Residents Learn More About South County Fire

Mill Creek, WALocal News

Mill Creek City Council has unanimously approved a resolution for residents to consider annexation into South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue, a measure that will be presented on the April 26, 2022 Special Election ballot. This proposed annexation represents the lowest cost option for property owners, based on 2022 figures, and aims to enhance the efficiency of emergency services in the area. South County Fire serves a population of approximately 270,000 residents with 14 fire stations, many of which are in close proximity to Mill Creek. The agency has a robust response capability, often dispatching units to Mill Creek for fire and EMS calls. All firefighters are certified as paramedics or emergency medical technicians, ensuring high-quality emergency care.

The funding for South County Fire comes from a combination of a fire levy, EMS levy, and a fire benefit charge, which is a fee based on the size and use of structures rather than a traditional property tax. If the annexation were enacted in 2022, the average homeowner in Mill Creek would pay about $882. 73 annually for fire services, which is seen as a beneficial financial structure. Residents are encouraged to visit the City’s website to learn more about the annexation request and South County Fire’s offerings.
