Mercer Island, WALocal News

The Mercer Island Police Department is conducting an active investigation into a luring incident reported on July 22, 2024, at approximately 8:30 AM. A child was approached by an unknown adult in the 2400 block of SE 63rd Ave SE, who asked the child to get into their vehicle. The child's immediate report to their parents prompted a quick response from local law enforcement. The mother of the child mentioned that the same adult may have contacted her child the previous day, although that report was not made at the time.

While this incident is under investigation, police clarified that it is not currently linked to a similar case from earlier in the summer. The Mercer Island Police Department takes such reports seriously, especially those involving children, and encourages the community to remain vigilant. Residents are urged to report any suspicious behavior and to educate their children on how to respond if approached by strangers.
