Lynwnwood, WALocal News

The grand opening of the Lynnwood Link Extension is scheduled for August 30, 2024, marking a significant expansion of light rail service in Snohomish County. This project introduces four new stations in Lynnwood, Mountlake Terrace, and Shoreline, providing vital connections to downtown Seattle and other key destinations. Sound Transit expects ridership to reach between 47,000 and 55,000 daily by 2026, reflecting strong demand for public transit in the area. Travel times will be notably reduced, with an 11-minute ride from Shoreline South to the University of Washington and a 28-minute trip from Lynnwood to downtown Seattle. In a move to simplify fare collection, a new flat fare of $3 will be charged, eliminating the need for riders to "tap off" with their ORCA cards.

This development is part of Sound Transit’s broader strategy to improve public transportation capacity and reduce crowding. Earlier in 2024, the 2 Line extension between Bellevue and Redmond also opened, showcasing the agency's commitment to enhancing transit options.
