Prep softball After 8-3 loss to Shorewood, coach says young Mavs still finding their footing

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Meadowdale Mavericks endured a tough 8-3 loss to the Shorewood Stormrays in a Wesco League softball game, struggling against a well-rounded opponent. Shorewood's Emma Kellum led the charge with a two-run homer, while the team effectively executed small ball strategies to keep the Mavericks on their toes. Meadowdale, with only three seniors and five freshmen, is under the guidance of first-year coach Julia Reuble, who is emphasizing patience and development. Reuble acknowledged the need for improved fielding, noting that despite just one official error, several miscues hindered their performance. A bright spot for the Mavericks was freshman Samantha Martens, who hit a three-run homer after a strong offensive push in the fifth inning.

Although they closed the gap to 4-3, Meadowdale could not sustain the momentum, allowing Shorewood to pull ahead. With a current record of 4-6, Reuble is focused on helping her young team learn from each experience. The coach's commitment to development and improvement is evident as she navigates her first season at the helm.
