Enacted by President Biden in November 2021, the BIL allocates about $1 trillion for various infrastructure needs, including $350 billion for public roads and bridges.

Larsen emphasized the necessity of infrastructure investments for job creation and regional economic growth, stating, “You can’t have a big-league economy with low-league infrastructure. ” Local leaders, including mayors and public works directors, highlighted the challenges they face in securing reliable federal funding to maintain and upgrade existing infrastructure. Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz noted the importance of federal partnerships to support innovative transportation solutions for mobility-challenged individuals. The Highway 99 Revitalization Project in Edmonds was highlighted as a key initiative focusing on safety and walkability.
