Kent Police seek help identifying vandal breaking mosque windows

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Kent Police are actively seeking public assistance in identifying a man who vandalized a local mosque in Kent, Washington, by throwing rocks and breaking windows around 12:15 a. m. on Saturday. Surveillance footage shows the suspect exiting a pickup truck to commit the act before fleeing the scene. Atif Nazir, president of the Islamic Center of Federal Way, criticized the vandalism, stating that while windows can be replaced, such behavior is inexcusable.

Kent City Council President Satwinder Kaur condemned the act, highlighting that crimes against religious institutions will not be tolerated in the community. Although this incident has not yet been classified as a hate crime, it has raised significant concerns regarding community safety and intolerance. The mosque had previously been targeted last summer in a burglary that resulted in the theft of charitable donations. In response to ongoing security concerns, the mosque has increased its security measures, including the installation of cameras. Authorities urge anyone with information about the crime to contact the Kent Police Department at 253-852-2121.
