Lynnwood, WALocal News

The 'Racism, Trauma, and Youth of Color' seminar is set for January 14 from 6-8 p. m. at the Carl Gipson Center in Everett, addressing the escalating incidents of race-based altercations in Snohomish County schools. Sponsored by the NAACP-Snohomish County and Volunteers of America, this free event will feature keynote speaker Kurt Hatch, an experienced educator and advocate for equity in schools. Hatch will explore the significant effects of racism and bias on youth of color, highlighting alarming disparities in school discipline and suspension rates.

A panel of local teens will also share their personal experiences, providing critical perspectives on these issues. The seminar is designed to equip parents, educators, and community members with insights and resources to address the challenges faced by racially diverse students. Given the rise in reported race-based incidents, this program is timely and relevant. Reservations are recommended for those interested in attending.
