The new Washington state laws taking effect in January 2025
On January 1, 2025, Washington state will introduce several new laws focused on enhancing public health and workplace safety. A significant law will ban the sale of cosmetics tested on animals, imposing fines of up to $5,000 for violations. Hospitals will be required to provide post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV, improving access for those at risk. The 'strippers’ bill of rights' will establish new workplace protections for adult entertainers, including training on conflict de-escalation and human trafficking awareness. Additionally, state agencies must provide identification cards to individuals upon their release from custody, aiding their reintegration.
The Diversion Cash Assistance program will also increase maximum annual payments from $1,250 to $2,000, offering greater support for families in financial distress. These legislative changes demonstrate Washington's commitment to public health, safety, and social justice, reflecting a progressive approach to addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.
