Forum: As Mukilteo diversifies, its DEI panel works to value all

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Mukilteo City Council has outlined its priorities for 2024 during a recent strategic retreat, emphasizing the need to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the community. With over a third of residents identifying as non-European, the council recognizes the importance of being a welcoming city. The DEI Commission has been instrumental in implementing community surveys, multicultural events, and implicit bias training. However, the preliminary budget did not initially include funding for 2024, prompting council members, including Mike Dixon, to advocate for the commission's financial support. They successfully secured $5,000 in funding for the next two years, reflecting the council's commitment to fostering an inclusive community.

The DEI Commission continues to seek volunteers to support its initiatives, highlighting the importance of community involvement in celebrating diversity and ensuring all residents feel valued and included.
