Zip Shuttle expanding to Darrington, Arlington, Lake Stevens

Lynnwood, WALocal News

Community Transit is expanding its Zip Shuttle program to include Darrington, Lake Stevens, and Arlington, starting Tuesday with a pilot initiative to improve local transportation options. This service allows residents to book affordable rides via a mobile app or by phone, facilitating access to essential services and amenities. Rides are priced at $2. 50 and accept ORCA cards, increasing public transit accessibility in these regions. Community Transit CEO Ric Ilgenfritz highlighted the program's significance as a model for potential countywide service expansion.

The Zip service has already seen success in Lynnwood, with over 63,000 boardings this year. The pilot will last 12 to 18 months, during which Community Transit will gather feedback to refine the service. This initiative also addresses the transportation needs of the significant elderly population in these communities, reflecting a commitment to sustainable transit solutions and reducing dependency on personal vehicles.
