Northbound Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle is set to experience significant traffic disruptions starting September 16, 2024, as the Washington State Department of Transportation begins a construction project aimed at improving traffic management. The project will involve nightly lane reductions and ramp closures to facilitate the installation of an electronic sign. Specifically, from 9 p. m. on September 16 until 5 a.

m. on September 18, three lanes and the University and Mercer Street ramps will be closed. Afterward, from September 18 to September 20, two northbound lanes will be closed along with the same ramps, causing further delays for commuters. The work is designed to enhance traffic flow and safety in an area frequently congested with vehicles. The WSDOT advises drivers to plan their routes accordingly and stay updated on construction progress through their real-time travel map and mobile app.

This project highlights the ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure in Seattle, particularly in busy downtown areas. Commuters and local residents are urged to remain informed and expect potential delays during the construction period.
