Transitional housing, multifamily property tax exemption, new jail position on Sept. 16 Lynnwood City Council agenda - Lynnwood Today

Lynnwood, WALocal News

The Lynnwood City Council will convene on September 16, 2024, to discuss critical agenda items that are essential to the community's well-being. One of the focal points will be a briefing from the Snohomish County Recovery Coalition and Hands Up Housing on transitional housing needs, particularly related to the newly opening Lynnwood Community Recovery Center (CRC), which will provide short-term services for individuals facing mental health and substance abuse challenges. Following treatment at the CRC, many individuals may require transitional housing to support their recovery journey. The council will also receive an update on the Multi-Unit (Family) Housing Property Tax Exemption (MFTE) program designed to facilitate affordable housing development in the area. Under this program, property owners can receive tax exemptions for new constructions or rehabilitations of multifamily residential units.

Lastly, the Lynnwood Police Department is advocating for the creation of a civilian jail manager position, aimed at improving jail operations and focusing on rehabilitation and self-sufficiency for inmates. Chief Cole Langdon will present this proposal during the meeting. The work session is scheduled to begin at 6 p. m. in the City Hall Council Chambers, with options for remote participation available.
