City making more gains in 10-Minute Walk to a Park initiative
The City of Lewisville has made notable progress in its commitment to the 10-Minute Walk to a Park initiative, with 83% of its residents now living within a short walking distance to a park, a substantial increase from 77% reported in June 2023. This achievement is attributed to recent park developments, including the newly dedicated Glory Park / Parque La Gloria. Initiated in 2017, this initiative aims for 85% park accessibility by 2025 and complete access by 2035, showcasing the city's dedication to community well-being and environmental enhancement. The Lewisville Parks and Recreation Department emphasizes that accessible parks facilitate not only recreation but also physical health, mental wellness, and social interaction. These improvements are a part of the broader Healthy Infrastructure Plan and support the city’s vision under the "Extending the Green" initiative.
The city remains committed to ensuring that all residents can enjoy outdoor spaces that foster community connections. Ongoing projects are aimed at further increasing access to parks and green areas, promoting an active and engaged lifestyle. For more information on future projects and the park system, residents are encouraged to visit the city's dedicated website.
