The Lacey Commission on Equity was established on January 21, 2021, by the Lacey City Council through Ordinance 1581 to enhance community inclusivity and address crucial discussions surrounding race and equity. Comprised of seven adult members and one youth representative from the Lacey Youth Council, the Commission serves terms designed to foster active community participation. Appointments for the inaugural members took place on May 20, 2021, following a thorough review process by the former Equity Workgroup. Recently, on September 27, 2024, the City Council adopted the 2024-2030 Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Plan, which serves as a strategic framework for advancing equity initiatives in the broader Lacey community. Monthly meetings are scheduled to encourage public input, with provisions for written and verbal comments to ensure diverse voices are heard.

The City prioritizes accessibility, providing reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities to facilitate their involvement. This commitment to equity and inclusion reflects a significant community effort to address existing barriers and promote a more equitable society. The Commission's work is vital in creating a welcoming atmosphere and fostering participation among underrepresented groups.
