Kirkland Police successfully apprehended two 16-year-olds, a boy and a girl, following a series of auto theft incidents that plagued the community. The police responded to reports of attempted car theft in the Norkirk neighborhood, resulting in a foot chase that led to their arrest. The male suspect is connected to a broader crime spree, including a gas station robbery and attempted burglaries of local businesses. On another occasion, he taunted officers by driving in circles around the police department's parking lot in a stolen car, prompting a chase authorized by police due to the serious nature of his offenses. Officers eventually disabled the vehicle using a PIT maneuver, leading to the arrest of both suspects once again.
While the boy remains in custody facing multiple charges, the girl was placed on electronic home monitoring after their initial release. This incident raises concerns about youth crime and the effectiveness of current measures in dealing with juvenile offenders. Kirkland Police expressed gratitude to the Redmond Police Department for their assistance in the ongoing investigation.
