Learn About Homelessness in Kirkland Help Shape the Citys Response
Kirkland has experienced a notable rise in homelessness, with over 300 reports submitted by residents in the past five years. The City’s Homeless Outreach Coordinator has contacted 160 individuals who are either unhoused or at risk in the last 18 months, reflecting the growing urgency of the issue. In response, the City of Kirkland is organizing two community forums on February 24 and 26, designed to engage residents in discussions regarding homelessness and the city’s strategies for addressing it. Mayor Kelli Curtis highlights the complexity of homelessness and the importance of community involvement in developing effective solutions. The forums will feature a presentation by city staff outlining current efforts and will allow for facilitated small group discussions to gather feedback from attendees.
Residents are encouraged to register for one of the sessions, as seating is limited, and their input will be essential in shaping the new Homelessness Continuum of Care Action Plan. This initiative reflects Kirkland's commitment to balancing the needs of all residents, especially those most vulnerable.
