Issaquah, WALocal News

The Puget Sound Energy Foundation (PSEF) has launched the "Powerful Scholars" program, a significant initiative aimed at supporting students in Washington state pursuing education in STEM fields and skilled trades. With a total investment of $200,000 in its first year, the program will provide 64 scholarships to students attending any of Washington's 34 accredited Community and Technical Colleges. Each scholarship recipient will receive $2,500, allocated for tuition and flexible funding for necessary educational materials, tools, and fees. The program specifically targets first-generation college students and current or former foster care recipients, addressing the financial barriers that hinder access to higher education. In addition to financial support, PSEF will offer mentorship sessions with experienced professionals from the energy industry, fostering connections that can enhance career prospects.

PSEF President Kim Collier emphasized the program's commitment to cultivating the next generation of leaders in the energy sector. By investing in education and promoting diversity, PSEF aims to build a skilled workforce that meets the growing demands of the energy industry. This initiative underscores PSEF's dedication to giving back to the community and empowering individuals through education.
