City Receives National Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for 13th Year

Iowa City, IALocal News

The City’s Finance Department has been recognized for its excellence in budgeting by receiving the national Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) for the 13th consecutive year. This award highlights the City’s FY2025 budget, which became effective on July 1, 2024, and underscores the City’s adherence to the highest standards in governmental budgeting. To earn this esteemed recognition, the City had to meet comprehensive national guidelines that assess budget effectiveness across four key areas: as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communications device. Each aspect of the budget was rigorously evaluated by three independent reviewers, who rated the City’s budget as “outstanding” or “proficient” in all categories. The GFOA, a nonprofit association serving over 22,000 government finance professionals, noted that over 1,700 entities participated in the Budget Awards Program in the last fiscal year.

This recognition not only reflects the City’s commitment to transparency and accountability but also enhances public trust in local government. Residents are encouraged to view the City’s FY2025 budget online, and for further inquiries, they can contact Finance Director Nicole Davies directly. Such accolades are crucial for fostering a positive image of local governance and ensuring effective fiscal management.
