Woodlands Township revisits 'loop' concept to help with increasing traffic woes
Montgomery County Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley is collaborating with The Woodlands Township to reconsider the concept of a "loop" intended to alleviate increasing traffic congestion in the area. This concept, previously studied in 2017, suggests a 34-mile route utilizing existing roads to help divert cut-through traffic and enhance mobility. However, Riley has voiced concerns about the potential disruptions the project could cause to local businesses and residents, particularly at the critical intersection of FM 1488 and FM 2978. To advance the project, support and funding from the Texas Department of Transportation and local officials are crucial. The community's recent resistance to widening Texas 242 demonstrates a growing desire for sustainable traffic solutions rather than simply increasing road capacity.
During a township meeting, Riley indicated he is open to discussions with state officials to assess the loop's feasibility, emphasizing the importance of understanding how changes might impact the region. Board member Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, who previously opposed the widening of Texas 242, also highlighted the need for a feasibility study to explore the loop further. This ongoing dialogue showcases the community's commitment to addressing mobility challenges while balancing the needs of residents and businesses.
