Hermiston Energy Services Announces Rate Adjustment Plan
The Hermiston City Council has approved a significant rate adjustment plan for Hermiston Energy Services (HES) customers, which was announced during the council's regular meeting on December 9. This decision comes as a response to rising wholesale electricity prices and increased material costs that threaten the reliability of the community's electrical infrastructure. The phased approach to rate adjustments will see increases of 7. 84% in March 2025, 6. 49% in March 2026, and 5.
19% in October 2026, helping to ease the financial burden on residents. By the end of the adjustment period, the average monthly bill for HES customers is projected to be around $150, which remains lower than the average electric bill across Oregon. Nate Rivera, General Manager of HES, stressed the importance of these adjustments for ensuring safe and reliable energy access. Additionally, HES is committed to promoting energy conservation initiatives to assist customers in managing their consumption and costs. The community's understanding and support are crucial as Hermiston takes proactive steps toward a sustainable energy future.
This initiative aligns with broader goals of maintaining infrastructure and ensuring energy reliability for over 5,500 accounts in Hermiston.
