Fort Worth Park Recreation awarded two grants from Texas Parks and Wildlife
The Fort Worth Park & Recreation Departments have secured two significant grants from Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), aimed at enhancing local recreational spaces and conservation education. The first grant of $1. 5 million will facilitate the development of an 8-foot-wide trail loop in Oak Grove Community Park, a 67. 39-acre urban park in southeast Fort Worth, alongside other potential upgrades like tennis and pickleball courts. The City has committed $3 million from 2022 Bond funds, demonstrating its dedication to improving community amenities.
The second grant, amounting to $2 million, will fund the renovation of the Hall of Wonders at the Fort Worth Zoo, which has inspired millions since its opening in 2001. This renovation will introduce modern, interactive displays focusing on critical conservation topics such as water management and invasive species. Richard Zavala, director of Fort Worth Park & Recreation, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the city and TPWD in creating inspiring spaces. These projects not only enhance public access to nature but also foster educational opportunities about Texas's unique biodiversity. Overall, these initiatives underscore Fort Worth's commitment to building a sustainable and engaged community.
