Roger Flygare, longtime FW volunteer and veteran advocate, dies

Roger Flygare, a beloved member of the Federal Way community and veteran advocate, has passed away at the age of 75. He was recently honored during a ceremony on January 30, where the U. S. flag was lowered to half-staff at the Federal Way Veterans Memorial. Flygare, a Vietnam War veteran and former commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, played a crucial role in local initiatives, including the Federal Way Public Market, where he served as president.

His extensive involvement in nonprofit organizations, such as FUSION, Kiwanis, and the Federal Way Coalition Against Trafficking, showcased his commitment to community service. Flygare's vision for the Federal Way Public Market highlighted his desire to create a vibrant gathering space for future generations. Mayor Jim Ferrell described him as a pillar of the community and a personal friend. A celebration of life service is scheduled for March 2 at the Federal Way Performing Arts and Event Center, allowing the community to honor his legacy. Flygare's contributions to local advocacy and veteran affairs will be deeply missed.
