Korean community awaits opening of Hanwoori Garden
The upcoming Hanwoori Garden in Federal Way is a collaborative effort between the local community and its sister city, Donghae, South Korea. Set to open in April 2025, this park will feature a traditional Korean pavilion called Palgakjeong and a gate, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Korea. The construction process has faced challenges, particularly in navigating differing building codes and timelines, as shared by Jae Wook Kim, the construction chairman. Originally slated for completion in October, the project has now extended its timeline due to these complexities. Local youth from the Korean American Parents Association (KAPA) are expected to assist with the garden's maintenance, fostering community engagement and volunteerism.
At a recent quarterly meeting, KAPA youth were recognized for their contributions, receiving various awards for their community service. The Hanwoori Garden is more than just a park; it represents a bridge between cultures and a space for the community to come together. The excitement surrounding its opening reflects the desire for increased cultural exchange and communal solidarity among residents.
