Fake iPhone Scam Reported on Facebook Marketplace in Federal Way

Federal Way, WALocal News

The Federal Way Police Department has documented a troubling fake iPhone scam that took place on Facebook Marketplace, emphasizing the risks associated with online transactions. A male victim purchased a counterfeit iPhone for $300 from a young white male seller, who cleverly packaged the phone in an authentic-looking box and provided a forged receipt with a matching serial number, misleading the buyer. However, when the buyer attempted to activate the phone, Apple confirmed it was fake, revealing the deception. After the sale, the scammer deleted his Facebook profile, making it impossible for the victim to recover his funds. This incident is part of a growing issue of online fraud, particularly in digital marketplaces.

In addition to this scam, the police log noted several vehicle thefts and other criminal activities in the area, indicating a need for increased vigilance among local residents. The police encourage community members to report suspicious activity and remain cautious when making online purchases.
