Replacement of Edgewater Bridge to get underway in late October

Everett, WALocal News

In late October 2024, the City of Everett, WA, will initiate a crucial project to replace the Edgewater Creek Bridge, leading to a 12-month closure of Mukilteo Boulevard. The bridge, which has served the community for 78 years, is deemed safe but currently operates under weight restrictions and is vulnerable to seismic activity. The total cost of the replacement is estimated at $34 million, with a substantial $28 million funded through federal grants, underscoring the project's significance. Local commuters, pedestrians, and cyclists are advised to familiarize themselves with alternative routes by visiting everettwa. gov/edgewater before the closure takes effect.

To keep the public informed, portable messaging signs will be installed a week prior to the closure, alongside additional banners and yard signs in the vicinity. During the construction phase, parts of Edgewater Park will be used for staging, with plans to renovate the park after the bridge's completion. Dan Enrico, the principal engineer for Everett Public Works, urged residents to prepare for the changes and plan their travel accordingly. This infrastructure improvement signifies the city's commitment to public safety and efficient transportation.
