Ellensburg Hires New Energy Services Department Director

The City of Ellensburg has appointed Mark “Buddy” Stanavich as the new Director of the Energy Services Department, effective April 1, 2025. This department was established to improve the management of the city's energy resources, separating it from the previously combined Public Works and Utilities Department. Stanavich, a lifelong resident of Ellensburg, brings over ten years of experience in public sector utilities, having served most recently as the Energy Resources Manager since 2018. His expertise spans electric and natural gas utilities, energy risk management, and renewable energy programs, making him well-suited for this leadership role. City Manager Heidi Behrends Cerniwey emphasized the importance of Stanavich's skills in navigating the increasing demands imposed by state energy policies.

Throughout his career, he has advanced from a Rate Analyst to overseeing significant energy projects, showcasing his comprehensive understanding of the sector. Stanavich holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Central Washington University, with a focus on Human Resource Management. His appointment is expected to strengthen services and enhance system resilience, aligning with the city’s goals for a sustainable energy future.
