Walkable Main Street 2021
The City of Edmonds, WA, is excited to announce the return of the Walkable Main Street program for 2021, which aims to enhance the downtown shopping and dining experience. Scheduled to run every Saturday and Sunday from June 19 to September 5, the initiative will close Main Street between 6th and 3rd Avenues. Mayor Mike Nelson emphasized the importance of community input in shaping this year’s program, which will include more public parking and improved signage. The city plans to maintain vehicle U-turns around the Fountain while ensuring clear pedestrian pathways through the use of crowd fencing. In response to public suggestions, the program will also feature additional seating and tables along Main Street to encourage social interaction.
A promotional campaign will be launched to support local retailers, with cross-promotion between businesses to enhance visitor engagement. This year's focused approach aims to attract not only local residents but also visitors from the greater Puget Sound region. The Walkable Main Street initiative reflects Edmonds' commitment to fostering a vibrant, community-centered downtown.
