The City of Edmonds is moving forward with three finalists for the Police Chief position, slated for a public meet-and-greet on August 4, 2021. Candidates Dante Orlandi, Michelle Bennett, and Lawrence Hunter possess substantial law enforcement experience and leadership qualifications, with Orlandi being a retired Major from Pennsylvania, Bennett currently serving as Acting Police Chief, and Hunter a retired Captain from Connecticut. The recruitment effort, led by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), prioritized community input through stakeholder interviews and surveys to tailor the search to local needs. The selection process includes public interviews conducted via Zoom, followed by an opportunity for community members to mingle with candidates at the Edmonds Library. Attendees will also have the chance to provide feedback through an online survey after the event.

This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to transparency and community engagement in public safety leadership. As the Mayor reviews public responses, a preferred candidate will be identified, followed by a thorough background check. The final appointment will be submitted for confirmation by the City Council.
