Notice of Forensic Report on Financial Misconduct at Des Moines Public Library

Des Moines, IALocal News

The Des Moines Public Library has released a press statement regarding a forensic investigation that uncovered significant financial misconduct by the late Library Office Manager, Bekki Kirkland. The investigation, carried out by RSM US LLP, identified unauthorized purchases amounting to $28,440. 83, primarily involving prepaid Visa gift cards. These irregularities came to light following Kirkland's death in April 2020 when library staff noticed inadequate documentation for various transactions on the library's credit card. In response to the findings, DMPL has updated its financial policies to strengthen oversight on credit card and vendor payment procedures.
