Phase 2 of Fleur Drive Reconstruction Starts this Spring

Des Moines, IALocal News

The City of Des Moines is preparing to launch Phase 2 of the Fleur Drive Reconstruction project this Spring, a significant $20 million investment aimed at revitalizing a crucial transportation corridor. This phase will focus on the southbound lanes from Watrous Avenue to George Flagg Parkway, addressing the needs of a road that sees approximately 30,000 vehicles daily. Resurfacing was deemed insufficient due to the road's age and heavy usage, prompting a full reconstruction to enhance both vehicle and pedestrian safety. City Engineer Steve Naber highlighted the project’s importance, ensuring that Fleur Drive will be more accessible and sustainable in the long run. Following the completion of Phase 1, this initiative will unfold over five years, with Phase 3 set to begin in Spring 2022.

Upgraded storm sewer and water main facilities will also be installed to mitigate flooding issues in the area. The city appreciates residents' patience during this construction process, reaffirming its commitment to improving local infrastructure. For further updates, residents can contact the City Manager’s Office or visit the city's website.
