Flashboards to be Removed From Des Moines River on March 24

Des Moines, IALocal News

The City of Des Moines is set to remove flashboards from the Center Street Dam on March 24, 2021, at 7:30 a. m. , pending favorable weather conditions. This operation will temporarily lower water levels on the Des Moines River, with boaters at Birdland Marina advised to anticipate these changes starting the afternoon of March 23. The city will adjust the outflow at the Saylorville Reservoir dam to allow staff to safely walk on the dam for the removal process.

Once the flashboards are taken out, the outflow will be recalibrated to elevate the water level by approximately two feet, enhancing recreational opportunities. This project highlights the city's commitment to effective management of its waterways and parks. Residents seeking further information can contact Parks and Recreation Director Benjamin R.
