Another Bridge Complete E 30th Bridge Opens In Time for State Fair

Des Moines, IALocal News

The Southeast 30th Bridge in Des Moines reopened to the public on August 4, 2021, just in time for the busy State Fair season. After being closed for significant repairs since August 2020, the bridge was prioritized for rehabilitation due to its deteriorating condition, having last seen improvements in 1980. The renovation included a complete deck replacement, which enhances both safety and longevity, and the widening of sidewalks to better accommodate pedestrian traffic. Structural repairs were also made to the bridge’s support columns, along with refinishing steel beams and improving sewer systems. The redesigned traffic layout now allows for two northbound lanes and one southbound lane, ensuring smoother flow for vehicles.

Although some minor work is still pending, including lane closures for additional installations, a full shutdown is not expected. This project underscores the City of Des Moines' commitment to infrastructure safety and modernization, directly benefiting over 217,000 residents. For further details, residents can reach out to the Chief Communications Officer, Al Setka, at the City Manager's Office.
