Fire Department Special Operations Completes Training 100 Feet Off The Ground
The Des Moines Fire Department's Technical Rescue Team recently completed high-angle rope rescue training at Monarch Cement, honing critical skills for rare but high-stakes rescue operations. This training involved all three shifts of the team, emphasizing preparedness for rescues at significant heights or in challenging environments. Captain Tad Stoner remarked on the importance of such exercises, stating, "These situations are low in frequency but high in risk," and underscoring how training equips the team to tackle real emergencies confidently. The Technical Rescue Team is part of the fire department's special operations, which also includes the Water Emergency Team and Hazardous Materials Team, showcasing the department's commitment to comprehensive emergency preparedness. In addition to high-angle rescues, the team is trained in confined space and trench rescues, broadening their operational capabilities.
