Dallas City Council awards more than $187 Million for key components of Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas Master Plan
The Dallas City Council has made a landmark decision by awarding over $187 million in contracts for critical components of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas Master Plan. This investment is designed to elevate Dallas's status as a leading convention destination. A major aspect of this funding includes a $141. 5 million contract awarded to architectural firms Perkins&Will and Populous, which will oversee the Convention Center Expansion West of Lamar. Notably, these firms have committed to ensuring that over 50% of the work is performed by minority- and women-owned business enterprises, reflecting a strong focus on inclusivity.
The Council's approval also includes $42 million in city contributions and $31 million in federal funding, with a significant $20 million sourced from the Reconnecting Communities grant program. This financial support will enable the construction of critical infrastructure, including foundations for three deck caps and the Lamar crossing near the convention center. As Dallas aims to enhance its convention facilities, this project is expected to attract more events and visitors, further boosting the local economy. The initiative is a significant step forward in the city’s ongoing efforts to modernize its convention capabilities and promote economic growth.
