Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced the departure of Jose Tirado, Executive Director of the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC), after nearly three years of dedicated service. With over three decades in law enforcement, including a pivotal role as Chief of Counterterrorism for the Chicago Police Department, Tirado has played a crucial role in enhancing public safety in the city. His leadership has been instrumental in reducing crime across various categories and ensuring the successful coordination of significant events, such as the upcoming 2024 Democratic National Convention. In his farewell remarks, Tirado thanked Mayor Johnson and the staff at OEMC for their collaboration, particularly highlighting the vital role of 911 and 311 operators. Francisco Velez, a seasoned professional in emergency management, will serve as Interim Executive Director to maintain continuity in OEMC’s operations.
