September is National Preparedness Month, and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC) in Chicago is calling on residents to take proactive steps in preparing for emergencies. The campaign, in partnership with FEMA, aims to encourage discussions around disaster planning within families and communities. This year's theme, “Start a Conversation,” highlights the importance of having open dialogues about potential emergencies and creating tailored preparedness plans. OEMC will share tips and educational videos on social media throughout the month, aiming to engage residents of all ages. A unique aspect of this year's campaign is the collaboration with Marvel Comics, featuring Chicago native Ironheart to deliver safety messages in an engaging manner.

The campaign will cover various preparedness topics, including reporting suspicious activity, severe weather, and water safety. By taking part in these initiatives, Chicagoans can enhance their readiness for unforeseen emergencies. Through this effort, OEMC aims to instill a culture of preparedness in the community.
