On September 13, 2024, Mayor Brandon Johnson announced a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Small Business Capacity Building Program in Chicago, designed to support the recovery and growth of local small businesses. This initiative, fully funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), allocates $3. 5 million for the selected organization that will administer the program. The program aims to provide small businesses with tailored resources, including assessments, customized coaching, and access to professional consultations in areas like legal, finance, marketing, and human resources. Mayor Johnson stated that small businesses are crucial to the city’s economy and deserve robust support to thrive.
BACP Acting Commissioner Ivan Capifali reiterated the program's goal of empowering businesses to enhance their operational strengths and close gaps in their processes. Proposal submissions are due by October 15, 2024, and interested parties are encouraged to attend a pre-submittal conference on September 24.
