WSDOT Provides Update on South Lakeshore Road Closure

Chelan, WALocal News

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has announced plans to reopen a section of SR 971 South Lakeshore Road, which has been closed since March 3 due to a rockslide. The affected area spans from mileposts 9. 1 to 11. 5 west of Chelan. WSDOT has secured the necessary funding and is in the process of finalizing an emergency contract with contractor Access Limited to facilitate the rock removal and implement slope stabilization measures.

Work is expected to take approximately three weeks, depending on the size of the rocks and prevailing weather conditions. Travelers are advised to exercise caution, as there remains a risk of rockfall in the area even after repairs are made. WSDOT has reiterated the importance of safety, urging motorists to avoid attempting to clear rocks from the road and instead report such incidents to authorities. For the latest updates on travel and road conditions, WSDOT encourages checking their real-time travel map. This proactive approach reflects WSDOT's commitment to maintaining safety and accessibility for all travelers in the region.
