Chelan County is distributing $524,745 in grants from opioid settlement funds to combat substance use disorders within the community, focusing on opioid and fentanyl use. The Chelan County Regional Justice Center will utilize part of the funding to enhance inmate health monitoring by installing 44 medical sensors in jail cells, bringing the total to 68. The Chelan County Superior Court will receive financial support for a Therapeutic Court coordinator and transitional housing for drug court participants, amounting to $58,141. Meanwhile, the Center for Drug and Alcohol Treatment will allocate funds for a full-time mental health provider and a new patient transport vehicle, totaling $413,700. This collaborative funding effort involves partnerships with Douglas County and the City of Wenatchee, highlighting a unified approach to addressing the opioid crisis.

The settlement funding stems from a larger statewide agreement involving multiple local governments, with Chelan County having already received about $1. 1 million. A call for projects to tackle substance use was made last fall, receiving 18 applications from diverse community programs. A second round of grant opportunities is expected this fall to further support local initiatives.
