Evies striding for diabetes
Evie Taylor, a 9-year-old from Brinsmead, Cairns, has transformed her personal battle with type 1 diabetes into a platform for advocacy. After being diagnosed following a severe hospital visit last Easter, she is now spearheading the JDRF OneWalk to raise funds for diabetes research. On March 23, Evie, alongside her mother Penny and local supporters, aims to raise $6,000 for this vital cause. Her journey has not only inspired her to organize this event but also led her to write an award-winning journalistic report on her experience in the hospital. The report, titled ‘Diseases and broken bones – a trip to Cairns Hospital,’ showcases her resilience and determination to raise awareness.
Evie's story is a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by children with chronic illnesses and the importance of community support. Through her advocacy, she hopes to bring joy to others living with diabetes and promote a search for a cure.
