Tom Calabrese has been officially appointed as the new police chief of the Burien Police Department, effective August 31, 2024. City Manager Adolfo Bailon praised Calabrese's dedication and passion for the Burien community, emphasizing his strong local ties and extensive experience in law enforcement. Having served as interim chief since April 2023, Calabrese is well-prepared to take on the permanent role. His 24-year career includes 16 years with the King County Sheriff's Office, where he began as a patrol deputy in Burien. Throughout his career, he has held various roles, such as master police officer and special emphasis team detective, culminating in his promotion to captain in 2021.
