The NYPD recently surprised Rosalyn Johnson, a 70-year-old woman from Crown Heights, Brooklyn, with a brand new electric wheelchair after hers was stolen. The theft took place on September 1 when Johnson parked her wheelchair outside a store while she went inside after attending church. Surveillance video showed a woman driving away in the stolen wheelchair, prompting a search by the police. Johnson, who has depended on an electric wheelchair since a stroke in 2011, expressed her frustration but chose to focus on forgiveness rather than anger. On September 25, law enforcement officials hand-delivered a nearly identical wheelchair, funded by $1,500 in donations to the police foundation, which left Johnson in tears of joy.
NYPD Deputy Commissioner Kaz Daughtry praised Johnson's resilience and emphasized the importance of keeping her mobile. Despite the unfortunate incident, Johnson holds no grudge against the thief, believing in the power of forgiveness as a source of strength. The police are actively searching for the suspect and have asked the community for any information related to the theft.
